A recent newspaper article stated that scientists have found arscenic in rice.  I'm not surprised.  Several years ago I watched a television report on an Asian country that had a problem with snakes in their rice fields.  The snakes were large enough to eat a human baby or small dog.  The rice farmers killed all the snakes, and then the rats grew to an epidemic number.  The rats ravaged the rice crops.
So, logic tells me that the farmers are now putting out rat poison in their rice fields.  The poison is getting into the soil and is being absorbed into the rice.
This is yet one more reason to buy American products.  Riceland rice, grown in Mississippi and other Southern states, is not infested with rats or poison.
